1 Corinthians 9:19 in the Williams version: “Yes, indeed, though I am free from any human power, I have made myself a slave to everybody, to win as many as possible.”
The Weymouth says “human control” instead of “human power.”
What is controlling us? Are we truly free of human power and control? In today’s society, much of our freedoms have been taken away in the interest of “safety” and “everyone’s good.” We have lost the ability of self-governance that our founding fathers envisioned. It was only envisioned because of writings like this. They were not dependent on others and created a society that was free from human control and relied on each person having self-control and being self-governed. Obviously, they did have laws, but nothing like we do today. Today we have lost the ability to choose to make ourselves slaves to serve others instead of others choosing for us. Each person should choose for themselves how they can best love and serve that way God will be glorified instead of a government program doing it for us. I will not depend on the government and treat it as a god. The government will not supply my needs. I will not be a slave to the government. I will not hold a government in higher authority or esteem over my choice to become a slave to righteousness. I will choose to love.
