When students tell me they don\u2019t want to do their work I have come up with a new reply. I have been telling them that I don\u2019t like to wash my armpits, but I still do it. I don\u2019t like to brush my teeth, but I still do it. I don\u2019t like to brush my hair, but I still do it. All in fun with a serious point. This obviously can apply to many other things in life, we don\u2019t want to do many actual hard things but still do anyway. We all can and do hard things even when we don\u2019t want to. I realized recently that this does apply to our spiritual lives. The spiritual is probably the most important part of ourselves we have and thus should be more of a priority than even our hygiene. I will go so far as to say that our bodies should be enslaved with our spiritual selves as masters. This then explains why fasting is such an effective tool for getting closer to God. It weakens our bodies and increases our dependence on the spiritual. So for those of us who struggle with making sure we have time in prayer and reading the word let this be a motivational observation you can use. Take care of your spiritual self before or in higher priority than your physical self or even over taking care of others. There is a reason we are to \u201cdie daily.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
